Refacing keeps the cabinet boxes you already have and replaces everything you see and touch — doors, drawer fronts, veneer and hardware. It is the shorter, less disruptive route to a kitchen that looks new.
What cabinet refacing actually is
Refacing keeps your existing cabinet boxes exactly where they are and replaces everything you see and touch. Old doors and drawer fronts come off. New doors, drawer fronts and hinges go on. A matching veneer or finish is applied to the cabinet frames that remain visible between the doors, and the knobs, pulls and soft-close hardware are updated at the same time. When it is finished, the only original parts left are the ones nobody looks at.
Refinishing is the narrower option in the same family: your existing doors are sanded and recoated rather than replaced. It is the right call when you still like the door style and want the colour and finish to suit the house as it is now — the move a lot of Orange County kitchens built in the 1990s need, where the cabinetry is perfectly good and the orange-toned oak is what has aged.
Both are done from our Anaheim showroom, where the door styles, finishes and hardware are on display in full size. That matters more for refacing than for almost anything else we do, because you are choosing a door against cabinet boxes and a worktop you are keeping, and a two-inch chip under showroom lighting is not enough to judge that on.
Refacing, refinishing, or replacing
The three are not competitors — they answer different conditions, and the condition is decided by the boxes and the layout, not by the budget.
If the boxes are sound and the layout works, refacing is the efficient answer. If the boxes are sound, the layout works and you like the door style, refinishing is cheaper still. If the boxes are failing, the cabinets were badly installed, or you want the sink under the window instead of on the island, then no amount of new door hides that, and custom cabinets or a full kitchen remodel is the honest recommendation.
We would rather tell you that at the showroom than sell you a reface that disappoints you in three years. It is the same reason we template in your home before ordering anything: it is the last point at which the answer can still change without costing you money.
What refacing pairs with
Because refacing is quick and contained, it is usually done alongside the one or two things that make the larger visual difference. A new quartz or natural stone worktop is the most common — the worktop and the doors are the two surfaces that read as “new kitchen” from the doorway, and replacing both while the kitchen is already disrupted saves doing it twice. Full-height backsplashes, under-cabinet lighting and a new sink and tap are the others.

Refacing across Orange County
Refacing runs throughout Orange County from the Anaheim showroom on East La Palma Avenue. The housing stock varies enough that the question changes by city: post-war and 1970s tracts tend to have solid boxes and dated doors, which is the textbook refacing case, while much of the newer inventory has cabinetry that is fine and simply not to the current owner’s taste.

Come to the showroom
Bring photos of your kitchen and, if you have them, rough measurements. You will see and handle the actual door styles, finishes and hardware rather than choosing from a screen. Emad Kloub or one of the design team walks you through what refacing can and cannot change.
Choose doors, finish and hardware
Door style, colour, edge profile, hinge type, knobs and pulls. We reface with the same cabinet lines we sell new — Omega, Waypoint, KitchenCraft and Homecrest — so the door you pick is a manufactured door, not a made-to-fit approximation.
We template in your home
Every opening gets measured on site, because a kitchen that was installed in 1998 is rarely square. This is also where we confirm the boxes are worth refacing, before anything is ordered.
Doors and veneer are made
Doors and drawer fronts are manufactured to your measurements and the veneer or finish for the visible frames is matched to them. You get real dates in writing rather than a best case.
Installation, then a walkthrough
Old doors and drawer fronts come off, veneer goes on the exposed frames, and the new doors, fronts, hinges and hardware are fitted and adjusted. We finish the punch list with you before we call it done.

What people ask before they book
How much less does refacing cost than new cabinets?
Meaningfully less, but the honest answer is that it depends on how many doors and drawers you have and which door line you choose — a large kitchen in a premium line can cost more than a small kitchen in new stock cabinetry. We quote both options in writing so you are comparing real numbers for your kitchen, not a percentage from a brochure.
How long does a refacing project take?
Selection and templating usually happen within the first two weeks. Doors and veneer are then manufactured, which is the longest part of the schedule and varies by cabinet line. Installation itself is typically two to four days in the house. Your written proposal carries the actual dates.
Can you match new doors to cabinets we are keeping?
Often, yes — that is a common request when a kitchen opens into a butler's pantry or a laundry room that is staying as it is. Bring a door with you to the showroom if you can. Where an exact match is not achievable in a current finish, we will tell you that before you order rather than after.
What if my cabinet boxes turn out not to be in good shape?
We find that at the templating stage, before anything is manufactured, and we say so. Refacing a failing box buys you a few years and then costs you the whole job again. If the boxes are damaged, badly installed, or the layout does not work, custom cabinets or a full remodel is the better long-term answer and we will price that instead.
Do you reface bathroom vanities as well as kitchens?
Yes. Vanities, laundry rooms, built-ins and wet bars are all refaced the same way, and they are often done in the same visit as a kitchen because the crew and the door order are already in the house.
Can I change the door style completely, or only the colour?
Completely. The door and drawer front are new, so a dated raised-panel kitchen can come back as flat-slab or shaker. Refinishing — sanding and recoating the doors you already have — is the option that keeps the style and changes only the colour and finish.
