A Transitional Kitchen Remodel in Orange County

When the homeowners first reached out to our team at Kitchen Cabinets & Beyond, they had one clear message:

“We love our home’s character—but the kitchen just doesn’t feel like us anymore.”

Located in a beautiful Spanish-style property in Orange County, the kitchen had all the hallmarks of that iconic architecture: warm terracotta floors, arched doorways, and richly stained cabinetry with ornate detailing. While these elements had served their purpose over the years, the space felt dark, dated, and disconnected from the more modern aesthetic the homeowners were drawn to.

They envisioned a kitchen that still nodded to the home’s roots—but one that felt lighter, cleaner, and better suited for everyday living.

From Heavy to Harmonious

We started by gutting the original kitchen to make room for a more streamlined and functional layout. The new space features

collection. To create contrast and depth, we added a

, tying it all together with minimalist chrome hardware.

The client was especially drawn to the idea of a statement backsplash, so we installed a full-height

in a soft concrete tone—offering subtle movement and a modern, organic look.

Bringing the Vision to Life

Our design team worked closely with the homeowners to reimagine the kitchen as a transitional space—something that would balance timeless elegance with modern simplicity.

Touches of Luxury

  • Cabinetry: We replaced the heavy, traditional cabinets with custom white shaker cabinetry that instantly opened up the space. These clean lines introduced a fresh canvas, while matte brass hardware added just the right amount of sophistication.
  • Island Upgrade: One of the homeowners’ must-haves was an island that could function for everything from morning coffee to after-school homework. We crafted a white oak island that brought natural warmth back into the room without overwhelming it. It serves as both a focal point and a functional workhorse.

A Kitchen That Finally Fits

The final result is a kitchen that blends the best of both worlds. We honored the home’s original architecture with details like the arched walkways and exposed beams, but brought it into the present with a lighter palette and thoughtful upgrades.

Now, the kitchen is the heart of the home again—where style meets comfort, and every detail feels just right.
